I had my surgery on March 7th 2023 at Hospital of Neurology and Neuro Surgery Queens Square London. They ask you to come 2 days before surgery which is a great idea as it allows your brain to calm down from the stress of outdoor life. On the day of the surgery the doctors come and fix on your head a DBS mask very tightly with bolts.

During surgery I was unconscious so I can only say what I heard after surgery. They drill through the DBS mask on your head through to an exact point of depth on your brain. This has been calculated and targeted by the MRI they take prior to the operation and the drill also is mechanical clutched to not go further then safe limit. Even though I didn't see it I have been assured that the drill is high quality and was not purchased from B & Q on sale.  

The surgeons then insert two probes on either side of your head with the goal being to get as near as possible to a certain point (lets just call it STN) without entering the speech zone as that could result in severe speech damage. The two probes both are fitted with 8 wires each equally distributed along the shaft so varying voltages can  be applied along the 4 sections of the probe (highest, high, low, lowest).

The  8 wires are then routed inside your head to the neuro-pacemaker which  sits above your heart.
